If our inspection shows the fault is on the public side, we will tell you that rather than sell you a repair you do not owe.

A failing sewer lateral is the most expensive plumbing problem a homeowner faces, and it is the one most often misdiagnosed. Before anyone quotes you a replacement, the line should be inspected on camera and the damage located to the foot. We do that first, every time.

What we find usually falls into a few categories: root intrusion at a joint, a bellied section holding water, an offset joint where the ground has shifted, corroded cast iron that has lost its floor, or a full collapse. Each of those has a different correct repair, and they are not interchangeable. A spot repair on a pipe that is failing along its whole length is money wasted.

Where the host pipe is intact enough to hold a liner, trenchless cured-in-place lining restores the line through existing access points with no trench across your lawn. Where the pipe is collapsed or badly undersized, pipe bursting pulls a new line through the old path. Where neither applies, we dig — but only the section that actually needs it.

That depends entirely on what the camera shows. A single offset joint or one root intrusion point is often a spot repair. Cast iron that has scaled and corroded along its full length is not — patching one section of a pipe failing everywhere just moves the next backup a few feet down.
